Jurassic Park: DNA Factor
Written By Jason Stolfer
According to sources, an INGEN Corporate airplane,
carrying precious cargo of DNA capsules, crashed in a high wind
storm somewhere deep inside the jungles of Isla Sorna. A few days
later, a search party discovered bits of the wreckage. They later
discovered that the DNA capsules had been scattered throughout the
island. This island is Ingen's primary area for engaging in extraordinary
experiments with prehistoric predators. Two people, Mark Hanson
and Lori Torres, were called upon to retrieve the lost DNA. The
mission is to scour the jungles, trails, and experimental areas
of Isla Sorna to collect the DNA particles and DNA capsules.
What
makes these missions dangerous is that you must avoid or "incapacitate"
roaming dinosaurs. After collecting enough DNA, you will return
to the DNA Lab where you will combine the entire DNA you collected
to create a new species. Failure to correctly complete the DNA strand
will result in mission failed and you will have to start that particular
mission over again.
The control setup is fairly easy. When hunting for the DNA, move
the character by pressing the control pad in that particular direction.
The A button will maker your character jump or drop off of a ladder.
The B button will be your action button. This will activate the
currently equipped item or weapon and can also be used in conjunction
with the A button for a jump kick. The R button will pick up items,
or make Mark or Lori crouch down and perform a slide/roll while
running in conjunction with the control pad.
When completing the DNA puzzle: the control pad moves the injector
left or right, L and R buttons move the DNA capsules left and right,
A button shoots the DNA particles, and B performs a quick DNA strand
rotation.
Graphically Jurassic Park III: The DNA Factor is top notch for the
Gameboy Advance. It definite shows off the power of this handheld.
The lighting looks good as well as the prerendered backgrounds.
The music effects and sound effects put the player in a Jurassic
Park mood. At first I thought Jurassic Park III: The DNA Factor was a less
than average game. Now after a few hours of actually playing it,
it's rather enjoyable. I like the fact that you can just pick up
and play. The DNA puzzle is probably the most challenging part of
the game. If you don't get that DNA capsule back together, you will
have to start that particular mission over again. I thought the
ability to create a new dinosaur species when completing the DNA
capsule was pretty cool. The one major drawback that I found was
that some of the dinosaurs on certain boards are virtually impossible
to see, especially if you are using a Gameboy light of some kind.
DNA Factor is definitely not for everyone. It is safe to say that
this is solid game for the kids, but then again I am enjoying it
as well.
