Death By Degrees
Written By Chris Webb
We recently had a chance to play
Death BY Degrees at this year E3. The game is coming along pretty good and adds
some new elements to the action/stealth genres. This new title stars a female
role by the name of, Nina Williams, one of the best and most well trained
assassin there is. While this game has some stealth elements its really all
about the combat, Nina is skilled with martial arts as well as many other forms
of fire arms and hand held weapons. This interesting title uses an analog based
fighting system as well as a fighting game style combo system. Death by degrees
also adds what’s called a death strike mode.
During the game as well as the
movie we got to see there you find out that Nina will be the main character.
Though Nina will not be alone in her fight she’ll have allies, one such allies
name is Alan. During of the CG sequences Nina is providing sniper cover to Alan.
We also had a hand at an earlier
build of the game. The game use the two analog sticks for movement and the
direction of your attack. This interesting combination allows you to create long
and complex combos. AS you increase combos you get skill points that allow you
to gain access to new moves. The game currently uses a still camera system
similar to that of the Resident Evil games. During the game you’ll see your
health bar and Focus bar. When the focus bar is full you’ll get the chance to
use a death strike. During death strike the game slows down giving you the
chance to aim for a vital organ. Using the analog stick you target the flashing
area killing the target instantly.
This game based in the
Tekken universe, you can expect to see some cameos of Tekken characters through
out the game. While this game is still and earlier build the graphics look good.
Good use of 3D environments, though we only got to play one level, many of the
effects looked very good. The entire game is done in a still camera-third person
view. The only first person view is with sniper mode. While the camera system
did work ok for the demo. There were long loading times, though these can be
fixed in the finally version. This new game is looking well rounded to be a good
title in scheduled to release late 2004. |
