Neo Contra, Will It Rock Or Not?
Written By John Beattie
Contra, the NES classic is back again and ready for more
action. We all remember those good old days, don’t we? Killing the endless
supply of aliens as we side scrolled are way to the boss man. In Neo Contra,
Konami takes that same old fire and adds a bit of fuel. New weapons, longer
levels, and uglier bad guys are just some of the upgrades to look out for.
Konami is also going to give the characters more depth this time round, Jaguar
(AKA Player 2) is now a new type of samurai. This is good; you never know when
you need one of those. Did you ever dream you’d be riding a dinosaur? No, well
you get to do just that. Riding your scaly friend as you dispatch all of the
enemy’s before you. If you gain one thing you lose another. Because of Neo
Contras 3D world, you will not be able to jump. This should not hurt the game
that much and may even help some of those people, who never could make the jump,
save a life or two.
If change is something you’re not really fond of, you’ll
be happy to know that some of the classic guns like flamethrower and spread will
be available for your killing pleasure. Also, instead of obtaining your weapons
as you go through the mission, you’ll select 3 guns before the level begins.
Speaking about the level, is seems that most of the levels in Neo Contra will be
in a 3rd person view above the players head. This should not affect
the difficulty of the level, only the strategy in which you play the game.
There are many skeptics that think Neo Contra will just be
another failed attempted to restore Contra to it original glory. I for one hope
that they are wrong, and think that Neo Contra is going to rock. Will Contra
cast its magic on fans once again and prove the skeptics wrong …. We shall see
at this year E3, which also happens to be the Big Ten, that’s right this year
the IDSA puts out the 10th year Anniversary Show.
